While many people are familiar with the basics of cosmetic injectables — including the fact that they provide a temporary solution for lines, wrinkles, and other signs of aging — patients considering cosmetic injections are often uncertain where to start, which injectable is right for them, and how long they can expect their results to last. The answer is not necessarily straightforward, as it can vary based on which filler or wrinkle relaxer is injected, the patient’s lifestyle, and other individual case factors. Here, board-certified nurse practitioner Michelle Eyler and the knowledgeable team at Ageless Skin and Laser Center in Hagerstown, MD provide a helpful starter’s guide to cosmetic injectables. Keep reading to learn more about the comprehensive range of injectables we offer, how they can help tackle your most frustrating aesthetic concerns, and how often you may need to plan for maintenance — or “touch-up” — injections.

What do cosmetic injectables do?

There are several classes of cosmetic injectables available today, with injectable dermal fillers and wrinkle relaxers being the most commonly used. Generally speaking, injectable fillers help to smooth out static lines, wrinkles, and folds and restore volume in flat or deflated features, while wrinkle-relaxing injections are designed to target dynamic (expressive) lines and wrinkles for a more refreshed look.

Which injectable should I get?

Because each injectable product is unique and designed to address a specific set of concerns, it is important to consult with Michelle prior to treatment. During this consultation, you’ll have the opportunity to discuss which signs of aging or deflated features are most frustrating, the results you’re hoping for, and ask any questions you may have, which will help Michelle to recommend the most appropriate injectable (or combination of injections) for you.

How long do aesthetic injectables last?

The longevity of injectable results varies fairly significantly based on which particular product is used and certain other factors — like how strong the patient’s lines and wrinkles are, how physically active the patient is, and others. For example, patients who engage in strenuous physical activity often may notice their wrinkle relaxers “wearing off” a little sooner than others.

While the best way to determine which injectable is right for you and how long your cosmetic injectables may last is to consult with an experienced aesthetic injector like Michelle, below is a general guide on the uses and longevity of some of our practice’s most popular injectables:
